Instrumentation Manager

Job Description:

• System design and specification: Designing and specifying measurement and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, and control valves, to meet process requirements and safety standards. This includes creating and reviewing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Maintenance and troubleshooting: Planning and overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of all plant instrumentation. This requires a deep knowledge of instruments, such as pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters, PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
• Regulatory compliance: Ensuring all instrumentation and automation systems comply with strict pharmaceutical regulations, including Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and safety standards like HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL. This involves extensive documentation and validation activities, such as installation (IQ) and operational (OQ) qualifications.
• Project management: Leading the instrumentation and control aspects of projects, including brownfield modifications and new installations. Responsibilities include planning, budgeting, vendor coordination, and executing projects from initiation to close-out.
• Quality assurance: Managing the calibration programs and ensuring instruments are properly qualified to guarantee the integrity of data and the quality of the final product. This involves developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to instrumentation.
• Team leadership: Managing and training a team of instrumentation engineers and technicians. This includes setting workflows, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring staff on maintenance, safety, and compliance procedures.
• Continuous improvement: Conducting failure analysis to prevent repetitive issues and identifying opportunities to improve automation solutions for greater safety and efficiency.
